Lectures at MPIfG in the 2016/2017 Winter Semester

In the winter semester 2016/2017, the MPIfG will once again be hosting public lectures given by academics from European and North American universities. Michael Storper from UCLA will give the first lecture in the current series on November 7. His talk on the rise and decline of urban economies will compare economic development in Los Angeles and San Francisco since the 1970s. On December 8, Christoph Möllers from Berlin's Humboldt University will embark on a reconstruction of the concept of the social norm moving beyond social differentiation. Colin Hay, Sciences Po Paris, will discuss whether capitalism still comes in different varieties on January 19, and Isabelle Ferreras from the Université catholique de Louvain will discuss the significance of enterprises as political entities on January 26. The series will conclude on February 16 with remarks by Rainer Diaz-Bone of the University of Lucerne on what the new French economic sociology has contributed to the field, focusing on ist influence in sociological research in German-speaking regions.
